Mercedes-AMG have launched a roadster version of its already popular Mercedes-AMG GT S and it is an epic looking car and by all reports a bit special to drive too. The new Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster will be powered by the 515bhp and 494lb ft turbocharged V8 AMG engine.
Sitting between the entry-level 469bhp GT Roadster and the 549bhp GT C Roadster the new Mercedes-AMG GT S will take you from 0-62mph in 3.8sec and car on to a a top speed of 191mph all from a 4.0-litre engine.
The new AMG GT S utilises a rear wheel drive setup mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powering its 19in front and 20in rear alloy wheels through and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential which is not offered on the entry level GT.
The GT S seems to be a mix between the lower spec GT and the GTC where it has has the same driveline as the GT, rather than the wider tracks of the GT C and GT R (which isn’t available as a Roadster). However, the four-wheel steering system of the GT C and GT R is an option on the GT S.
And not to miss a trick Mercedes have on offer a pretty extensive list of extras that any discerning buyer must have, buyers can specify the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which brings firmer suspension, active engine mount and quicker-responding steering. Inside, the pack adds Nappa leather and Dinamica upholstery.
The car will not be shipping until July but if you get along to your Mercedes dealership now you can put a deposit down as Mercedes-AMG is taking pre-orders. But you will need deep pockets as the starting price is £125K
Given there 12 models in the range you are spoilt for choice although I am afraid you will have to wait until 2020 for the GT Black Series.
