So, you hail a cab, expecting the usual “Black Cab” or maybe a nice Mercedes but in Lincoln, you might get a Lamborghini Huracan Taxis. According to the Sun newspaper, the “Silver Bullet” is the first supercar to be granted a Taxi License in the UK.
The two-seater Huracan has been granted the license by the City of Lincoln Council for use by the Handsome Cabs taxi company. The car can be hired for special occasions in the limonin style of events such as weddings, business meetings or gifts where it becomes a bit crazy is that you can hire the car for a trip to the shops or the pub in the same way you would hire a traditional cab.
The man behind the idea John Bishop, 53, of West Lindsey, Lincs, who runs the company alongside Jamal Parvez, 39, said: “We just thought it would be something a bit different, really.
The boys told the Sun newspaper “We had the idea about a year or so ago, and since then we’ve been determined to make it work.
“We think it’s something that’s going to help make us stand out.
“I would envision it mostly being used by students going to and from proms, and for business people going to functions.”
The taxi does have one limiting factor that is that there is only one seat next to the driver so you will not be able to enjoy the ride to the pub with your mates, but I am sure that will not put people off.
The council’s verdict was so swift that the firm is six weeks from rolling out the Huracan for public use.
John added: “Between now and then we have to decide on a pricing structure and sort out the complex issue of insurance. ”
Councillor Cath Brothwell, chairman of the council’s licensing committee, said: “Our committee received an unusual application from Handsome Cabs and have granted a licence for their Lamborghini Huracan as a specialist private hire vehicle, for restricted use.
“It is certainly an impressive vehicle and one which will no doubt turn many heads around the streets of Lincoln and beyond.
“People will be used to seeing cars like this in The Fast and Furious, but not so much on Firth Road and Flaxengate.
“We wish the company every success with this vehicle.”
Such a gimmicky taxi will offer the average punter a ride in a car that they would only ever see in pictures or passing by on the road.
