McLaren has announced that a convertible version of the McLaren 570s will be launched later this year. The newMcLaren 570s Spider will keep the coupé’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine and should come with the same 562bhp and 443lb ft of torque.
Although, Mike Flewitt, from McLaren, said that it does not make economic sense to add a 540C spider version.
“With the 540C, by the time you add options it can cost the same as a 570S, which is why we only offer it in certain markets,” Flewitt said. “And because of that, it doesn’t make sense to do a 540C Spider. There will never be a 540 GT either.”
The new McLaren 570s Spider will share the same technology, already used on the 650s giving it a hard-top folding roof. This additional weight, about 40kg, it is expected to give similar performance stats to that of the coupé. As such expect a 0-62mph time of 3.2sec and a top speed of 205mph.
Prices are also expected to be around 20K more for the new McLaren 570s Spider giving us a base price of £165K
