McLaren has confirmed that they plan to add a spider version to the 570s range which will go on sale later in the year. The rumour is that it will come be powered by the McLaren’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 and the same 562bhp and 443lb ft of torque.
McLaren boss, Mike Flewitt, also added that there would not be a spider for the 540C, due to economic reasons
“With the 540C, by the time you add options it can cost the same as a 570S, which is why we only offer it in certain markets,” Flewitt said. “And because of that it doesn’t make sense to do a 540C Spider. There will never be a 540 GT either.”
He also stated that 570s spider will have folding hard-top roof, similar to that of the 650s. The folding hard top mechanism is expected to add around 90lbs to the weight of the car which should not slow it down from its blistering 3.2 0 to 60 and top speed of 204 mph.
With the starting price of the coupe at £145,000 we expect the spider to come in around the £165,000 mark.
